Finding Every Occurrence of a Hebrew of Greek Word

Since the Bible is written in Hebrew and Greek, we need to locate every occurrence of an original Hebrew or Greek word rather than just search for an English word. For example, if you're studying Ephesians 1.7 where Paul mentions forgiveness, it's best to find all occurrences for the Greek word translated forgiveness rather than the English word forgiveness. After all, the same English word could actually be translating different Greek words.

Here's an easy way to search for all of the occurrences of a Hebrew or Greek word regardless of how it's translated in English:

  • Open the ESV Reverse Interlinear to any passage (for example, Ephesians 1.7)
  • Right click on a word in a verse (for example, forgiveness)
  • Select Englishman's Concordance from the right menu

Now you'll see every occurrence of the underlying Hebrew or Greek word regardless of how it's translated into English!
